Planning your first trip to Bali and not sure how to fit everything in? This 10-day Bali itinerary covers the best spots on the island, from temples and rice fields to surf beaches and island snorkelling trips.

Most guides would suggest visiting Nusa Penida, which is a beautiful island right next to Bali, however, I recommend going to the Gili Islands instead.

They are still easily reachable by ferry and they are more unique than Nusa Penida/Lembongan/Ceningan. Why? Because there are no cars or scooters on the Gili Islands, you can really have a different experience and not worry about transport, as they are all walkable!

What to expect from this itinerary? You will visit Bali and the Gilis in 10 days but without rushing! I will also give you a few options so you can change it if necessary.

I’ve personally done this route (and tweaked it many times), and I’ve included suggestions for solo travellers, recommended places to stay, and local tips!

Let’s dive in!

What You Need To Know

  • From and to the airport, 👉 book a private taxi, they are super affordable and reliable. Public transport is still not developed in Bali!

  • Before visiting the islands, make sure you have some cash with you as there will be less ATM available

  • The best way to get cash is from ATMs with a card that has low to zero transaction fees (👉 Wise is my go-to). A lot of money-changing businesses would scam you in Bali! How? After making you count your money, they quickly change it with another smaller amount and put it in the envelope.

  • Get travel insurance before your trip! I personally use SafetyWing Insurance and I’ve already had to use it several times while travelling for food poisoning, bacterial infections and small accidents. It’s very affordable and gives me peace of mind knowing I’m covered if something happens.

Let’s get started with the itinerary!

Day 1 to 3: Ubud

We are going to start with Ubud. This is the perfect way to start the trip because you can really get to understand Balinese culture and familiarise with local practices that you will notice over and over again for the next 10 days!

There are a lot of walks in nature and temples to visit, but there are also great opportunities to meet other travellers and make connections (at cool cafes and/or activities!).

Day 1: Monkey Forest, Ubud Palace and sunset

Morning

Check in at your hotel and get ready for the day.

If you are arriving in the morning, chances are you will have to wait until the afternoon for the room to be ready. However, you can still check in, drop your bags and freshen up in the bathroom!

👉 I highly recommend booking Anumana Ubud Hotel, it’s right next to the Monkey Forest! It’s super clean and you get to see some monkeys coming right to your balcony. I went there alone a few times and I loved it!

-> Check out this blog post for more places to stay in Ubud, split by area and this post specifically for female solo travellers in Ubud

First stop will be the Monkey Forest. This is not just a place to see monkeys; there is also a very active temple where local people go regularly to pray and attend ceremonies.

The Ultimate 10-Day Bali Adventure: Your Perfect Itinerary. The sacred monkey forest in Ubud, Bali. There are some monkeys playing in the forest.
Monkey Forest, Ubud

Each home in Bali has its own family temple (within their property) and neighbourhood temple. So the Monkey Forest temple is the neighbourhood temple for a lot of families (mine included!).

The forest is really worth visiting, there is an entrance fee (around $6) that pays for the monkeys’ food and the overall maintenance.

If you are wearing a backpack, consider leaving it in the lockers in the entrance so that monkeys won’t jump on you and try to open it! They also stole my rings and other things I was carrying, so only bring your essentials for this visit.

That being said, don’t worry because all monkeys have been vaccinated against rabies and they are not aggressive – just VERY naughty!

Afternoon

For lunch, head to Watercress, it’s a 15-minute walk from the forest and they serve really good Western food. Ask to be seated upstairs because it’s nice and quieter.

Now, jump on a Grab scooter and head to Ubud Palace.

If you feel confident riding a scooter 👉 you can rent one through BikAgo. It’s the most reliable site to book your own scooter and get it delivered wherever you are!

The Ubud Palace is free and really nice to explore. It’s the most elaborated royal palace in Bali when it comes to carvings and woodwork.

During the day you will see local children taking Balinese dance classes. Sometimes I just sit there and watch them, the dance seems very complicated to execute but they are really committed!

Ubud Palace is also the best venue for the famous Kecak Dance (also called the fire dance). 👉 Book your tickets on GetYourGuide.com, it’s the best way to reserve your ticket in advance. Also, make sure to show up at least 20 minutes earlier to sit on the front!

At the same venue, they also perform the 👉 Lelong Dance which is another traditional dance mainly performed by women. It involves a lot of facial expression and slow, controlled movements.

From here, take Grab again or jump back on your scooter and head to Alchemy Cafe in Panestanan.

This vegan cafe is where expats and yogis would go regularly. It’s very pretty, but most importantly – delicious!

I go here often to get some work done and I actually met a few people here too. If you are into yoga, just cross the road and go to Alchemy Yoga Studios.

They host really nice yoga classes in beautiful bamboo structures. If you are into Kirtans (collective chanting to Gods), they have a few scheduled every month.

Evening

For your first evening in Ubud I’ll take you to my favourite place – Sayan Point!

A lush jungle landscape in Bali with a winding river, rice paddies, and a dramatic golden sunset casting a warm glow over the scene.
View from Sayan Point, Ubud

This is the best spot to watch the sunset in Ubud while having traditional Indonesian food and a cool drink.

The sunset here is pretty unique you see the sun going down over the forest, rice fields, rivers and so on… you literally can’t miss it.

Day 2: Tirta Empul and Campuhan Ridge Hike

Morning

On day two, you will visit a stunning Balinese temple. I’m going to give you 2 alternatives and it’s up to you to choose where to go.

The first option is Tirta Empul. Here you can experience the purification ceremony in the water.

This is one of my favourite things to do in Ubud that I still practice even now that I’m a resident here in Bali. You get to experience one of the most important Balinese traditions and feel washed off completely after!

👉 Book your purification ceremony in advance here!

If that doesn’t sound like an experience you want to do I would recommend this other temple a lot less touristy. It’s called Goa Lawah Temple, it’s near a beach and it’s famous for its bats’ cave!

Left: A woman wearing a white shirt and traditional sarong smiles in a well-manicured temple garden with tropical plants and statues. Right: Worshippers dressed in traditional white clothing sit in front of a multi-tiered temple during a religious ceremony surrounded by stone carvings and trees.
Goa Lawah Temple

I’ve never seen bats in person before and that really stuck in my mind – so this is definitely a cool temple to visit, but it’s a 1-hour drive from Ubud!

To enter any temples you have to wear a sarong (a cloth to cover your legs), If you don’t have one, you can rent it by the entrance.

Afternoon

In the afternoon, go for a slow and easy hike along Campuhan Ridge.

It’s a very shallow hike you can do in flip-flops. It’s very nice because you start from a lovely temple then go up a small path and finish on the top where you can find nice cafes to refresh from the heat!

Don’t forget to bring your camera and tripod to get some pictures! The sunset here is also nice to watch.

👉 Check out more walks in Bali for free on the AllTrails app

Evening

For dinner, go check out my go-to Warung (local eatery) where I get my favourite Indonesian dishes! It’s called Compound Warung and it’s super cute!

It’s just off a small touristy road and it will look like you are going at someone’s house but trust me you’re on the right path!

I get vegetarian soto (a vegetarian option to soto ayam which is chicken soup) and it’s my favourite in town.

From here, walk a few steps back on the small road and go to This Is Bali for dessert – but make sure you book in advance because this place gets PACKED in the evening!

Day 3: Mount Batur, Tegallalang Rice Fields and Yoga Barn

Morning

If you love hiking, wake up at stupid o’clock and head to Mount Batur with a guide! We are talking 2 AM!

The sunrise on the top will be worth the early rise and you get to really bond with everyone on the tour too. I would suggest wearing hiking shoes if you are a bit clumsy.

👉 Book your tour in advance on GetYourGuide.com! The guides here are hiking experts and this tour also includes breakfast (you’re going to want that!)

An alternative to the Mount Batur hike could be visiting the iconic Tegallalang Rice Fields (if you are going for the hike, it’s likely you will see them on the way) and nearby waterfalls.

rice fields in Ubud, Bali
Tegallalang Rice Fields

The best way to do that is with a tour so that you get to see more in a short amount of time 👉 Check out this tour – you get a really good local guide that takes you to the best rice fields and waterfalls! It also includes a visit to Tirta Empul if you didn’t get to see it yesterday!

Afternoon

Now it’s finally time for self-care and there is no better place for that than Ubud! Here you can really get the best massages on the island as well as amazing yoga/meditation studios.

Speaking of which, my favourite yoga studio is Yoga Barn. It’s the most famous one in Ubud so it might sound like a cliche, but it really seems like a separate world!

There is a lot of nature and it calms me down immediately. I also found it affordable (some classes are even free) and easy to reach as it’s bang in the centre!

Now let’s talk about massages! You can get some really good Balinese massages for $6 pretty much anywhere. However, you are only staying in Ubud for 3 days and I say you should go all in for the full Balinese experience!

👉 Book your massage at the Svaha Spa in Ubud. I love this place! You can go for a bath covered in petals and a really high-quality Balinese massage after.

Day 4: Sanur

Morning till early afternoon

After Ubud we are moving south and visit Sanur.

A tranquil scene of Sanur Beach in Bali with calm, clear water, small traditional boats anchored offshore, and a sandy shoreline stretching toward the horizon.
Sanur Beach

The best way to go to Sanur is via private driver. 👉 I always get mine via Klook.com. You can secure a driver for as much time as you want and can ask to do different stops on the way too!

From here, you can actually go on quite a few day trips, however, my favourite one is a snorkelling trip to Nusa Penida.

It’s a beautiful experience if you like snorkelling and you also get to see Nusa Penida – all in a day!

👉 I booked this tour through GetYourGuide.com and it’s been amazing! I also loved having lunch with other travellers in Nusa Penida.

I’ve listed more snorkelling trips in Nusa Penida here, but I would say for a day trip the one above is the best because you snorkel all day and get to see a different island on the same day!

Evening

Once your back in Sanur, go for a lovely walk by the sea or rent a bike. There is a beautiful path by the sea and in the evening there is always something going on!

Live music and BBQ by the beach are common on most nights. However, for dinner I’ll take you to my favourite beach restaurant which is Costa by Monsta.

It’s really delicious mostly western food and it’s right on the beach.

👉 For your accommodation I highly recommend the Hyatt Hotel. It’s such a treat and it’s a dream place in Sanur (get’s fully booked real soon though so you have to be quick!). I love that it’s right by the beach and it looks amazing.

-> Check out other places to stay in Sanur here

Day 5-6: Gili Islands

Here is where the magic happens. You will see what it’s like to live a slow island life even if all you have is 2 nights!

The Ultimate 10-Day Bali Adventure: Your Perfect Itinerary. Image of the travel blogger with a yellow bike in Gili Trawangan

Literally, no visit to Bali would be complete without experiencing the idyllic Gili Islands. There are no cars or motorbikes here, only bikes and horses!

On this itinerary I recommend staying in Gili Trawangan as a base and then visit the other 2 islands nearby on day 6!

Day 5: Gili Trawangan

Morning

From Sanur, get a driver and head to Padang Bai harbour, where you will get on this boat for Gili Trawangan.

This harbour is the best for the route from Bali to Gili Trawangan, it will take about 1 hour to drive there but it’s better than taking a boat from Sanur and go on a 4-hour ferry!

Once you get in Gili Trawangan, check in at your accommodation and get ready to explore!

👉 If you like a shower outside as much as I do, book Villa Sunset Beach – you will love it! I got to shower under the sun during the day and watch the moon before bedtime. A shower outside in Gili T is non-negotiable! The property is right on the beach and it comes with a STUNNING yoga studio as well!

Rent a bike and cycle around, it’s definitely the best way to see Gili Trawangan!

A bike for one day would be around $5 and you can normally get one from your accommodation or nearby.

Afternoon

Chill out by the beach or visit The Banyan Tree Cafe. This is a vegetarian place to hang out and meet other travellers or expats.

It’s a really nice cafe with steady WIFI as well, which is great if you need to get some work done.

Evening

There is only 1 thing everyone looks forward to every day and that goes for locals and tourists – THE SUNSET! And I promise you, it’s going to be the best one you’ve ever seen.

There isn’t a specific location to watch it, anywhere west will do – the island is very tiny!

Two people wade through shallow water on a beach during low tide, walking toward a golden sunset reflected across a calm sea.

I’ve been to Gili T so many times, sunsets here are so insanely beautiful that sometimes people clap like it’s an actual show from the theatre. I’m not even joking!

As per tradition, my local friends and I would always end up eating at Sumi Sate.

This is a local spot for seriously delicious Indonesian food (more Lombok food rather than Balinese as Gili T is part of Lombok!).

Day 6: Gili Air and Meno

Snorkellers in the water looking at underwater statues. They are wearing fins and snorkelling masks. [Blog post: Best Bali itinerary 10 days]
Snorkelling Trip – Gili Islands

Morning

Continue your exploration of the Gili Islands with a day dedicated to snorkelling around Gili Air and Gili Meno.

It is going to be busy, especially if you are visiting during peak season between June and mid-September but there is a reason for it – it’s really worth it!

👉 This snorkelling tour is fantastic. You can swim with turtles, go check out the underwater statues and visit Gili Air + Gili Meno!

Most tours will end just after lunch so you still have some time to spend on Gili T before heading back to Bali the day after.

Afternoon

Gili T has really good yoga studios, I’ve tried plenty but the one at Villa Sunset Beach has been my top studio so far because of the view!

Even if you are not staying here, you can still go for a drop-in class and pay when you get there. They also do fly yoga which is fun if you’re into it!

Evening

After your class, head to PinkSunset Kiss Gili T for a beautiful sunset and live music! This place is very popular but you can still sit in other places nearby if it’s fully booked and enjoy the music.

Day 7-10: Uluwatu And Day trips

Uluwatu is known as for some of the best places in the world for surfing, breathtaking beaches, and the stunning Uluwatu temple.

From here you will then be able to explore other places such as Nusa Dua and Canggu.

Day 7: Bingin Beach and Uluwatu Temple

Morning

In the morning, go back to Bali and drive to Uluwatu, where you’ll be based for the rest of your trip.

It’s going to take about 2h30 to get there from Padang Bai but at least you won’t have to move for a while after this!

👉 Check in at the Radisson Blu, this is my-go to place where I can really get spoiled and enjoy my time in Uluwatu. It comes with a huge pool and gym. Also the buffet breakfast is SO GOOD!!!

-> For more accommodation options in Uluwatu, check out this blog post

Afternoon

We are heading to Bingin Beach straight away! This beach is perfect for swimming and surfing (if you want to try surfing in Uluwatu and beyond, check out this blog post).

Early afternoon is the best time to visit this beach because it would be just after the high tide in the morning where the sea is pretty rough and there isn’t much room to sit down!

So I normally go here just after lunch and stay until sunset. It takes about 10 minutes to reach the beach from the main road and it’s mainly steep steps so if you have any heart conditions, this beach might not be for you!

2026 UPDATE:
Most of the businesses in Bingin beach have been demolished! It’s a long story but the beach now doensn’t look great! I would go directly to Padang Padang Beach or Dreamland Beach.

Evening

In the evening, don’t miss the opportunity to witness the incredible Kecak dance at the Uluwatu temple.

The setting for this show is incredible, on top of a cliff by the sea.

While watching the show, you will see the sun going down, reaching all the shades of red!

👉 Book the tickets for the dance through GetYourGuide.com! This is where I always book it because I really trust the guide! He would show you around before the show too and speaks perfect English!

Day 8: Surf in Padang Padang

Image of Padang Padang beach, Bali
Padaing Padang Beach

Morning

This morning, go for a nice breakfast at Nourish. This cafe serves really filling dishes, in fact, a lot of people would come here straight after training at Bamboo Fitness Gym! It’s also on the way to our next destination.

We are going to Padang Padang Beach. You will have to pay a small fee to access the beach and walk about 5 minutes. Go here as early as you possibly can because this beach gets busy and there isn’t much room for everyone.

The reason why I always go to this beach is that it’s perfect for swimming and the water is beautiful.

You can also take a surf class here! Just head to the beach, there is a surf school happy to help you get started and you can also rent a board from the same place.

Afternoon

If you like good Italian food, go to La Baracca for lunch. They serve incredibly good pasta there – my favourite is “cellitti al tartufo” and obviously their lava cake!

After lunch, go digest your food by walking down a path to reach the Impossible Beach. This is a special beach, not that touristy, there is barely anyone there and I would just read a book and sunbathe!

Going down to the beach from the main street takes around 15 minutes. If you are not as clumsy as me, it might take less!

An alternative to the beach is getting a glorious massage at The Renaissance Bali Resort. They have luxurious rooms here and different kinds of massages, including reflexology.

👉 Check the SPA’s pricing list on Klook.com

Evening

After your divine massage, go to Single Fin to watch the sunset. This is a very popular spot to watch the sunset, so make sure you go at least 30 minutes earlier to secure your seat!

If you are taking Grab to get there, be aware that the driver won’t be able to take you all the way there, but you will have to walk 10-15 minutes to get to the place. This is because they are not allowed to get all the way to Single Fin! The same will apply for the way back.

Day 9: Canggu

The Ultimate 10-Day Bali Adventure: Your Perfect Itinerary. Image of Canggu, Bali. There are surfers on the beach and it's a clear, bright day.
Echo Beach, Canggu

Morning

I’m not a Canggu person but I have to say if you like socialising and/or surfing, this is the place to visit!

Canggu is full of trendy cafes and restaurants. If you have a business and need to network, you can easily meet others looking for the same. You can also make friends in no time.

How? There is a site called Nomeo where expats would list daily events and meetups, but honestly, you can just meet people in cafes too!

If you like beach clubs, check out The Lawn, it’s one of the best ones in Canggu and it’s affordable.

Afternoon

In the afternoon, we are going to Tanah Lot Temple. It’s not too far from Canggu and I think it’s worth visiting because it’s pretty unique. It’s a Balinese temple built right on the beach.

👉 Get this tour from Klook.com it includes the entry ticket and guide to visit during sunset time! It’s a beautiful experience!

Evening

It’s time to head back to Uluwatu.

Go for dinner at The Drifter! This is actually a surf shop with a lot of other things such as clothes, books and accessories.

At the back of the shop there is a delicious vegan restaurant! They also serve amazing cakes there so I would pay a visit for sure!

Day 10: Nusa Dua

Morning

On your last day in Bali, you can either stay in Uluwatu (in this case, check out Nyang Nyang Beach!) or go for your last day trip.

I recommend checking out Nusa Dua Beach (about a 40-minute drive from Uluwatu). It’s completely different from other beaches in Bali and it’s not as busy either.

Unlike most of the beaches in Uluwatu, Nusa Dua Beach is easy to reach – no steps involved! It’s very well kept and it’s famous for water sports too!

Afternoon

For lunch, make your way to Nusa By/Suka, it’s a beautiful and delicious restaurant near Nusa Dua serving Western food.

If you have time, check Melasti Beach on your way back to Uluwatu. It’s a lovely beach with crystal clear water and good for swimming!

Evening

It’s time to go back to I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport! It will take about 1 hour from Uluwatu.

👉 Use Klook.com to book your transfer in advance! They have fantastic and reliable drivers, I use this site all the time!

When To Visit For This 10 Days Itinerary In Bali

-> Dry Season: April to October

During dry season is the best time to explore Bali and enjoy this itinerary!

You can comfortably plan snorkelling trips and other outdoor activities as the weather is mostly sunny. There are also fewer mosquitos and a lot less humidity!

How To Get Around Bali

For this 10 days in Bali, here are the best ways to move:

Private driver: This is the best option when moving from place to place with your luggage!

👉 Book your driver via Klook.com! It’s super flexible and reliable!

Rent a car: If you want to be independent and have luggage, renting a car is a great option and it’s quite affordable too!

👉 Check out car rental prices here

Rent a scooter: This is the perfect way to go around anywhere in Bali. Getting a scooter is really easy and can be delivered anywhere you are. Drop offs are also extremely flexible.

👉 Look at scooters available right now through BikAgo!

Grab: This is the Uber version of Bali. You can get scooters or cars. In touristy spots, Grab scooters are widely available. But they won’t be many if you go outside the main towns.

Grab cars are very affordable and available in many places, BUT – don’t expect them to stop on the way if you need to, they won’t do it!

That’s why I always recommend a private driver. Sometimes it’s even cheaper than Grab and it gives you total flexibility!

Where to stay in Bali

Image of one of the hotels in Uluwatu, Bali where the travel blogger stayed. The Radisson Blue.
Radisson Blu, Uluwatu

Homestays/Guesthouses: Family-run accommodations. They are budget friendly and you get to stay within a Balinese family’s compound (property). I love staying at homestays because I can really get to know the local culture and take part in ceremonies!

Hostels: Perfect if you are budget-conscious and looking social interactions. Bali has some really good ones!

Worried about choosing the wrong hostel in Bali?

Get the free guide with the safest and most solo-friendly hostels so you can book with confidence 🌸

Villas: Get a villa if you want to treat yourself and have some privacy!

👉 Check Out VRBO for the best villas in Bali!

Bungalows: These are normally wooden houses with outdoor bathrooms. I love this option on Gili Islands because they are stunning and pretty affordable (check them out here!)

Hotels: In Bali you can find a wide-range of hotels and resorts for every budget. The stuff is really professional and sweet.

How much money do I need for 10 days in Bali?

As for the budget, the amount you’ll need for 10 days in Bali depends on your choice of hotels, but overall, meals, transportation, and activities are quite affordable.

Let’s take a closer look at some estimated prices:

Meals: A traditional Indonesian meal can cost around $2.43, while a Western meal may start at $8.

✍️ Bali Travel Planning Guide 🌴

Before you start your unforgettable journey to Bali here are the essential tips every female solo traveller should know:

📱 Do I need an eSIM for Bali?

✅ Yes. Having data from the moment you land makes your trip so much easier. I recommend Ubigi eSIM, which connects instantly without queuing at the airport for a SIM card and works better than other eSIMs I have tested. 👉 Get your Indonesia plan now

🚑 Should I buy travel insurance for Bali?

✅ 100% YES! — My #1 safety tip for all travellers is to buy travel insurance for every trip in case anything happens during their visit (and yes, Bali belly is a thing!). I highly recommend HeyMondo – you get 24/7 support and it’s budget-friendly!

💧Can you drink the water in Bali?

🚱 No — It’s recommended to drink filtered or bottled water in Bali (I even brush my teeth with filtered water).

🏩 What’s the best way to book my Bali accommodations?

My go-to for Bali hotels is Booking.com. For hostels, I normally go for Hostelworld (you can also filter by private rooms if you want!). If you love pets you should consider Trusted Housesitters, you would get free accommodation in exchange for looking after amazing pets ❤️

🐒 What’s the best way to book my Bali activities?

Get Your Guide and Viator are the best ones. You can go through the reviews to learn more about each activity and they have amazing customer support!

🛒 Will I find tampons in Bali?

Yes! However, they are hard to find! Get the guide with the list of sellers and Google Map here!

🚕 How can I book my taxi in advance from the airport to my accommodation?

I always recommend reserving your taxi in advance via Klook. This is because it will ask you for flight details and the driver will be able to track your flight in real time. I would book my taxi especially when I fly to new places or get there at night time! If you want to rent a car, Klook is still your best bet. They have cars available to pick up right at the airport! For scooter rental in Bali, go to BikAgo.

🏄🏽 Where can I book surf camps or yoga retreats?

Booksurfcamps.com is the best for surf camps all over the world. Use Bookyogaretreats.com for the best yoga retreats in Bali and worldwide.

✈️ What’s the best site to book my flight?

Skyscanner is definitely the best one out there! I love their “explore everywhere” function for when I need inspiration on where to go next! If you will embark on a long flight and you love showering in between flights or just using the lounges in airports all over the world, check out Lounge Passes on Klook, GetYourGuide or get a lounge membership on Priority Pass!

🎫 Do I need a visa for Bali?

👍 Yes — US, UK, and EU passport holders can get the Visa On Arrival (Tourist Visa) valid for 30 days in Bali. Read more here)

💰 𝗖𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆: The currency here is the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR), and there are plenty of ATMs if you need cash. I always withdraw from ATMs to get the best rates (select “no” when it asks you if you accept the conversion rate). The best debit card to use when travelling to Bali is Wise!

🚕 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Getting around Bali is easy peasy! Rent your scooter on BikAgo. The alternative would be getting a scooter taxi using Grab or Gojek which are safe and cheap in major places like Ubud, Canggu and Uluwatu. You can also book your private driver!
