How to Get from Lovina to Ubud: Best Ways

If you are planning on moving from Lovina to Ubud, there are different ways to get around the island.

In this blog post, I will show you exactly all the alternatives you have, including pros/cons, prices and travel duration for each option. Whatever you are going to choose is going to be an amazing road trip.

I’ve done it by car (taxi) and it’s been the best road trip I’ve ever done in Bali! You will go through pure nature, rice fields and beautiful villages.

Are you ready? These are the options you’ve got:

#1 Lovina to Ubud by Car Taxi For Full Freedom

One of the most convenient ways to travel from Lovina to Ubud is by car taxi via Klook.com. With this option, you have the freedom to set your own pace and stop at various attractions along the way.

The distance between Lovina and Ubud is approximately 75 kilometres, which can be covered in around 2-3 hours, depending on traffic conditions. The price for this option is normally around IDR 600k (about $38).

On your road trip, make sure to visit Gitgit Waterfall, which is a stunning waterfall on the way to Ubud.

How to Book Your Taxi from Lovina to Ubud

Taxi apps like Grab and Gojek are not available in Lovina!

You can ask your hotel to arrange a taxi or book a private driver in advance yourself via Klook.com.

#2 Lovina to Ubud by Organised Tour

If you prefer a guided experience with fellow travellers, joining a tour is an excellent option. There are numerous tours available that cater specifically to exploring North Bali other stops en route to Ubud.

These tours often include visits to ancient temples like Ulun Danu Beratan Temple and waterfalls.

The good part is that they normally arrange pick-up and drop-off as well. So you could agree on being picked up in Lovina and dropped off in Ubud!

How to Book Your Tour from Lovina to Ubud

Now that you’re excited about your journey, let’s talk about how to make it happen!

#3 Rent Your Scooter

If you’re the adventurous type who loves the feel of the open road, hiring a scooter to travel from Lovina to Ubud can be a thrilling option! It’s a journey that takes about 2.5 to 3 hours, and it’s definitely an adventure you won’t forget.

You can hire a scooter in Lovina from BikAgo. This site allows you to book your scooter easily, collect it in Lovina and drop it off in Ubud! They typically offer daily rates (IDR 70-80k, which is $6 approx) and will require a valid driver’s license. It’s always a good idea to check the scooter’s condition and ensure you’re comfortable with the brakes, lights, and horn before you hit the road. Don’t forget to grab a helmet for safety!

Now, for the route. You’ll start on Jl. Seririt-Singaraja heading south, which will take you through beautiful rice fields and local villages.

Then, turn east onto Jl. Raya Wanagiri. It is a winding road that offers stunning views over the Twin Lakes. From there, head southeast on Jl. Raya Baturiti until you reach Jl. Raya Batuan and you’ll be in Ubud before you know it!

Remember, driving in Bali can be quite different from what you’re used to, so take your time, enjoy the scenery, and most importantly, stay safe! Remember to bring a rain jacket or waterproof trousers/top in case it rains on the way.

Pros👍: You can leave any time you want and get to your destination quicker as you can easily avoid traffic.

Cons👎: 2-3 hours on the scooter can be absolutely draining! You will need to stop very often. Plus you need to consider the weather conditions,

#4 Get The Shuttle Bus

For those seeking a budget-friendly option without compromising convenience, the shuttle bus service from Lovina to Ubud is a fantastic choice. These shuttles operate at regular intervals throughout the day and offer a hassle-free journey with minimal stops along the way.

This option is especially ideal for solo travellers who value both cost-efficiency and simplicity. Prices vary from agency to agency, but generally, they are about IDR250K/300K which is around $9.

Pros👍: This is a cheap way to get to Ubud for sure, you can meet people and get to your destination quicker because there aren’t many stops on the road.

Cons👎: If you want to explore Bali, you won’t be able to stop anywhere with a shuttle bus.

#5 Rent A Car Before Your Trip To Lovina

While rental cars are not easy to find in Lovina, you can rent them at the airport or in touristy destinations before getting to Lovina.

This would give you all the flexibility you need to stop anywhere you like, anytime you like.

Things to Do on a Road Trip from Lovina to Ubud

As mentioned before, there is a lot to see between Lovina and Ubud.

Most travellers would go from Amed to Lovina, so you are probably going down this route for the first time. Let me tell you that going down all the way to Ubud from northern Bali is amazing (yes, even during the rainy season!).

Here is where to stop:

Munduk

Only about 1 hour away from Lovina, you can see the most amazing waterfalls as well as lakes and ancient temples.

Ulun Danu Beratan Temple

This temple is amazing! It’s definitely worth visiting and it doesn’t even take too long to explore. It took me about 1 hour to see everything!

I highly recommend stopping here even on a rainy day, it’s actually great to visit when it rains as there would be fewer tourists and you can still take stunning pictures!

Discover Traditional Villages

Take a detour and visit traditional Balinese villages such as Penglipuran or Tenganan. These villages offer a glimpse into Bali’s rich cultural heritage, showcasing traditional architecture, local crafts, and warm hospitality.

Explore Tegallalang Rice Terraces

Situated just outside Ubud, Tegallalang Rice Terraces are an iconic sight that should not be missed. Stop to see the incredible rice terraces and walk around them to watch the agricultural efforts closely.

Best Places To Stay For This Trip

If you decide to stop on the way, Monduk is probably the best spot to find a place. This is because you can use it as a base to explore everything around and head straight to Ubud the day after.

I’ve done this route quite a few times. The weather is very unpredictable and the road tends to be bumpy, which means that being in a car is the best option.
