Best Sunset Spots in Uluwatu (2026 update!)

If you think that sunsets are all the same, well, you havenโt been to Uluwatu yet. The reason I love sunsets here so much is the setting.
There is nothing like watching the sun go down with surfers in the background and the cliffs turning gold. If you are lucky, you can even smell nasi goreng cooking from the little family restaurants, called warungs.
My favourite sunset spot in Uluwatu is Single Fin, especially if I am with friends. Here you can have a smoothie or dinner while watching the sky change from the top of the cliff.
If I am alone and just want to be with a book, I go to my secret beach, Pantai Tanjung Simah. I have barely seen anyone there in all these years. It is a bit of a trek to get down to the beach but it is always worth it.
In this post I will tell you more about my favourite sunset spots in Uluwatu and the best places to stay if you want that same view from your room!

#1 Single Fin
Single Fin is a bar/restaurant located on top of spectacular cliffs and it’s a legendary spot for surfers and sunset lovers.
This is where I would normally go if I want to watch the sunset with my friends. We grab dinner or just a few drinks and head somewhere else for dinner after sunset.
I highly recommend getting there early, at least 45 minutes before sunset, to secure some good spots.
If you are taking Grab scooter to get to the Single Fin, bear in mind that Grabs are not allowed all the way to the bar, so it will stop eventually and you have to walk the remaining part (about 10 minutes).
Sometimes you can get through with Grab but they will ask you to pay a fee. This is not worth it at all. If this happens to you, ask the Grab driver to leave you and walk from that point instead. It’s really not that far!
In case you feel confident to ride your own scooter, you can totally rent one in Uluwatu so you are fully independent to move anywhere you want!

#2 Pantai Tanjung Simah
If you’re looking for a more intimate experience, you should check out Pantai Tanjung Simah. It might take some time to get there but it’s absolutely stunning.
A few people would walk all the way to Padang Padang from here. That’s because there is normally a low tide around sunset time.
This beach is not busy at all normally, I’m just on my own with a book and a nice frangipani flower in my hair.

The Korowai consists of small wooden rooms right on the cliff above this beach. So one day I just walked down and found it!

#3 Uluwatu Temple
Uluwatu Temple is one of the most iconic spots in Uluwatu. I mean, look at that picture!
This is where you can also watch the kecak dance show which is the traditional Balinese fire dance. This is a must-attend event because it’s amazing. I went quite a few times both here and Ubud too!
It’s located on the southwestern tip of the Bukit Peninsula and this ancient sea temple offers a dramatic setting for a unique sunset.
The first time I went it blew my mind completely so the second time I came back with my mum and shared this experience together!

#4 Suluban Beach
Suluban Beach, also known as Blue Point Beach, is famous for its stunning cliffside views and impressive waves.
The rocky walk and unique cave entrance add a touch of adventure to the sunset experience. You should definitely add this spot to your list!
#5 Thomas Beach
If you’re looking for and less crowded sunset experience, Thomas Beach is a good choice! Although it will be more popular than Pantai Tanjung Simah anyway.
This is probably the easiest beach to access (just a short walk downstairs) and once you’re back on the main road, you will find some delicious restaurants just opposite the beach. That’s the perfect way to end your evening!
#6 Rock Bar Bali
The Rock Bar Bali at Ayana Resort and Spa is one of the best spots to watch sunsets in Uluwatu!
Accessible via a scenic inclinator ride down the cliff, this iconic bar offers an unparalleled 360-degree panorama of the ocean and the horizon.
This is a great option if you want to have a drink and snacks whilst watching the sunset. It’s also quite an easy place to meet people if you’re in the mood too!

#7 Bingin Beach
Bingin Beach is the place to be during the day and during sunsets! It’s a fantastic beach and the sun disappears right behind the cliff turning the sky in all different shades of red and then blue.
Just remember that your way up to the main road will be dark, so you will either use the torch from your phone or make sure to leave before pitch black!
That being said, there is something you should know about Bingin Beach right now. The beach is going through a tremendous change, where 48 local businesses have been completely destroyed by the government.
This is not the best place to explain what is happening, but if you are going this year, you might experience a lot of movement and building sites. Surfboard rentals are also not available right now.
If you’ve heard of restaurants such as “Morabito Art Cliff” on social media and other blogs, well, this business, just like many others on this beach, was forced to close.
This beach was my favourite in Uluwatu, hopefully you can still enjoy a stunning sunset!

Final Tips for Watching the Sunset Alone in Uluwatu
Watching the sunset alone is a beautiful experience. I normally go early, read for a bit, then put the book down and just watch. Sometimes I journal too.
These are my top tips to really enjoy your sunset moment fully:
#1 Get there early. About 45 minutes before sunset is a good rule. Youโll find a spot, settle in, and not feel rushed. If you’re at one of the quieter beaches, it’s nice to watch the light change slowly.
#2 Bring a book or something to write on. Just in case you feel like staying a bit longer. These kinds of evenings are made for doing nothing, or for thinking about everything.
#3 Keep your phone charged. Once the sunโs gone, it gets dark fast. Youโll need your torch for the way back, especially if you’re walking up a cliff path or heading back from somewhere like Bingin or Tanjung Simah.
