Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) is one of the busiest airports in Southeast Asia and a popular stopover for travellers flying between Europe, Australia and the rest of Asia. The good news? It has free public showers!
I don’t know about you, but finding a free airport shower after a long flight instantly makes my day. There’s nothing better than freshening up before your next flight, especially if you’ve got a long layover ahead.
If you’d rather enjoy a proper shower, a hot meal and somewhere comfortable to relax, Kuala Lumpur Airport also has several paid lounges that are well worth considering. Depending on how long your layover is and which terminal you’re flying from, one option may suit you better than another.
In this guide, I’ll show you exactly where to find the free showers, compare the best airport lounges with shower facilities, and share where to sleep, how to get into Kuala Lumpur, and what to do if you have enough time to leave the airport.

Where To Shower for Free at Kuala Lumpur Airport?
Free showers are available at Level 3, near Domestic Departures in KLIA Terminal 2. As soon as you get to the Terminal 2 Departures area, head toward the check-in counters and keep walking straight.
Look for the Domestic Departures direction. Between that point and Family Mart, you’ll see an entrance to the public toilets. It looks like a regular restroom, nothing that suggests showers, but go in anyway. Inside, near the sinks, thereโs a small notice that says โshower facilities available here.โ

Thereโs no fee to use them, but make sure youโre prepared:
- Bring your own towel and soap (get the full list here)
- Take your bag into the cubicle with you, thereโs nowhere safe to leave it outside
That said, the free showers are only available on the landside of the airport, before you go through security and immigration. Once youโve entered the airside area, whether youโre in transit, on a layover, or already checked in for your flight, the only shower options are the paid lounges.
Alternatives: Paid Showers at Airport Lounges
If you are in between flights and want a proper shower, food and be super comfy, get a lounge! There are quite a few options with different price points:
๐ฟ Plaza Premium Lounge Entry
Most airport lounges only offer a standard 3-hour pass, but Plaza Premium Lounge gives you a lot more flexibility. You can book anything from 2 to 12 hours, depending on how long you’re staying at the airport. That’s surprisingly rare and incredibly useful, as it lets you pay only for the time you actually need.
Along with clean shower facilities, at this lounge you’ll have access to comfortable seating, complimentary food and drinks, Wi-Fi and charging stations, giving you everything you need to freshen up and recharge before your next flight.
Unlike the free public showers, you’ll also have somewhere to sit, enjoy a meal and unwind instead of heading straight back into the terminal. If you have several hours to spare, the longer lounge passes offer excellent value and give you plenty of time to shower, eat and relax at your own pace.
What’s Included: Lounge access (3-hour, 6-hour, or 12-hour options), selection of food and drinks, one selected alcoholic drink, free-flow draught beer and coffee, seating area, Wi-Fi, international TV channels, newspapers, and magazines.
Extras: Located at Satellite Terminal and Terminal KLIA2, offering a relaxing environment before flights.
Price: $32
โก๏ธ Book your Plaza Premium Lounge pass here and choose from flexible 2, 3, 6 or 12-hour passes to suit your layover.
๐ฟ Sky Suite Airport Lounge by K.L. Airport Hotel (KLIA T1/T2)
If you’re flying from Terminal 1 and need a shower before your flight, Sky Suite Airport Lounge is well worth considering.
It offers a comfortable waiting area where you can read a book or call your friends, complimentary Wi-Fi, food and drinks, charging ports and a quieter vibe away from the busy departure gates.
The biggest difference between the two locations is that only the Terminal 1 lounge includes shower facilities (subject to availability). The Terminal 2 lounge is designed more as a comfortable place to eat, recharge and wait for your flight, but does not include showers.
If you’re flying from Terminal 1 and your main priority is taking a shower before a long flight, Sky Suite can be a good value option. If you’re departing from Terminal 2 specifically for a shower, I’d recommend choosing one of the other lounge options instead.
What’s Included: 3-hour stay, shower rooms (subject to availability), WiFi, light refreshments, free-flow soft drinks and beer, flight monitor, and charging ports.
Price: $41

Where to Sleep Inside or Near Kuala Lumpur Airport
After talking about shower facilities at KL airport, next you will want to know where to nap! Especially if you have a super long layover ahead of you! Here are a few options:
If youโd rather stay inside the airport, there are two transit hotels located airside, meaning you donโt need to clear immigration:
๐๏ธ Sama-Sama Express KLIA (Terminal 1)
๐๏ธ Sama-Sama Express KLIA2 (Terminal 2).
These are ideal for layovers and quick naps between flights. Rooms can be booked for a minimum of 6 hours, and theyโre perfect if you want to rest without leaving the terminal area.
For a more comfortable stay outside the airport, the ๐๐ฝ Sama-Sama Hotel KLIA is your best bet.
Itโs connected to the main terminal by a covered walkway and offers a 24-hour gym, swimming pool, and spacious rooms. A free buggy shuttle runs between the hotel and KLIA, making the transfer quick and easy.
Another excellent option is the ๐๐ฝ Hilton Kuala Lumpur, located just next to KL Sentral station.
You can reach it directly via the KLIA Ekspres train. The hotel has a gym, a pool, and luxurious roomsโsome with bathtubs. I stayed here once after missing a flight and found it super convenient, plus it gave me the chance to explore the city for a few hours.

Layover Ideas: What to Do in Kuala Lumpur

If you have a long layover, itโs worth stepping out to explore Kuala Lumpur.
You can even book a Kuala Lumpur Full-Day Tour with 2-Way Airport Transfers, where a driver picks you up from the airport and brings you back after a guided city visit. Here are some top highlights to consider:
#1 Petronas Twin Towers
One of the tallest buildings in the world โ grab this entry e-ticket to admire the city from the skybridge or observation deck.
#2 Batu Caves
Easily reachable from KL Sentral by train or via a Batu Caves Half-Day Tour, this iconic site features limestone caves and vibrant Hindu shrines.
#3 Chinatown & Central Market
Perfect for wandering, street food, street art and local shopping. Expect plenty of snacks, souvenirs, and busy stalls.
๐ท If youโve got a full day to spare, ๐๐ฝ booking this guided tour can help you cover all these highlights efficiently while learning more about the city from a local guide.
FAQs On Shower Facilities In KL Airport
KLIA offers lounges, free Wi-Fi, shower facilities (free and paid), prayer rooms, restaurants, duty-free shops, money exchange, and baggage services.
Yes, both KLIA terminals are open 24/7.
You can book a transit hotel or lounge, take a nap, enjoy a proper meal, shower, and even head into the city using the KLIA Ekspres or airport bus if you have enough time and a valid visa.
KLIA is well-signposted and modern. Make sure to check which terminal youโre flying into/out of (KLIA1 or KLIA2), have local currency for small expenses, and note that immigration lines can be long during peak hours.
I would recommend getting travel insurance (I always use SafetyWing) and data for your phone through an eSIM (Ubigi is my go-to!).
What To Do If You Are Doing a Visa Run From Bali
Kuala Lumpur is often the go-to place for visa runs from Bali. It’s pretty close, affordable and lovely to explore. If that’s the case, it’s likely you are only spending a day in the city and then flying back. I would recommend going for the free showers so you can freshen up before going back to Bali.
Ciao for now,
