Best Places To Stay In Kuta Lombok For Female Solo Travellers

Trying to decide where to stay in Kuta (Lombok) as a solo female traveller? I think accommodation matters more here than people expect.

I’ve been to Kuta several times and every trip looked completely different. Some visits were focused entirely on surfing, others were proper holidays, and sometimes Kuta was simply my one-night stop before heading to Gili Air, where I ended up living for a while.

Because of that, I’ve stayed in different parts of town and tried different types of accommodation depending on the trip. One thing I noticed is that where you stay changes your whole experience, especially if you do not drive. Staying close to surf meeting points, cafes, and restaurants makes things much easier and gives you more flexibility during the day.

The acccommodation I liked the most was Secret Spot Surf & Stay because it was affordable, quite central and social. I easily walked anywhere I needed to and felt super safe.

Below, I’ve included my favourite places to stay depending on your budget, along with some tips for us women travelling alone in Lombok.

#1 Secret Spot Surf & Stay

Secret Spot Surf & Stay is probably my favourite place to stay in Kuta Lombok even though it does not have a pool. I booked a private room here and honestly thought it was incredible value for money.

The staff were beyond friendly and kind and ended up being one of the reasons I enjoyed staying here so much. Breakfast was also genuinely good, not one of those tiny hotel breakfasts where you leave hungry. There are a few options to choose from and the portions were much more generous than average.

One of my favourite parts of the stay was actually the shared breakfast area upstairs. It is spacious, beautifully arranged, and everyone sits together around one long table. During breakfast I ended up meeting other girls travelling alone and had some really lovely conversations with people passing through Lombok. It felt social in a very natural way and not at all like staying in a party hostel.

You can also refill your water bottle whenever you want, which I really appreciated after surf sessions and long days outside.

#2 Mana Eco Retreat

Mana Eco Retreat is a beautiful place to stay in Kuta Lombok if you want somewhere more social. The property includes a restaurant, yoga classes, a spa, shared spaces, and regular events like movie nights, so there are plenty of opportunities to spend time around the hotel and meet other travellers.

I went there a couple of times for movie nights even when I was staying elsewhere because the setup was genuinely lovely. The food was delicious, the space was beautifully arranged, and people stayed after the film to talk and hang out together.

Mana is not directly on the main street, but it is still within walking distance of cafes and restaurants, so you can easily get into town without needing a scooter.

#3 Sima Hotel Lombok

Sima is a great option if you want somewhere more comfortable while still staying right in the centre of Kuta. The location is excellent because it sits directly on the main road, so you can easily walk to cafes, restaurants, shops, and surf meeting points without needing a scooter.

Out of all the places I stayed, this was one of the rooms I enjoyed the most. It was super spacious and I especially loved the tiles and all the small design details. From my balcony, I had a beautiful view of both the swimming pool and the mountains, which made mornings here really special.

The facilities were also better than I expected. The swimming pool is large and very well looked after and there is even a small gym, which I ended up using every day. Breakfast is buffet style, so it is an easy option before heading out.

Another thing I really appreciated was the staff. They were incredibly helpful and even helped me organise a scooter driver since there is no Grab scooter in Kuta Lombok.

#4 Novotel Lombok Resort

If your idea of a good trip is slowing down a bit more, I think Novotel Lombok Resort is one of the nicest places to stay in the area. Located directly on the beach, it has swimming pools, restaurants, and enough space that you can spend a few quieter days without feeling too disconnected.

I love staying in social places sometimes, but not every trip is like that. Sometimes I just want to journal, read a book by the beach, and not talk to anyone for a day or two. This is exactly the kind of place I would book for that.

The location is also one of my favourite things about staying here. You are only around a 10 minute drive from Kuta, so you can still go into town whenever you want cafes, restaurants, or a bit more energy.

At the same time, Novotel is closer to Bukit Sunset Seger, which I think is one of the best places in Lombok to watch sunset, and also closer to Tanjung Aan Beach, which is my favourite beach on the island.

If you want somewhere beautiful while staying in Kuta, I think Naia Hotel is one of the nicest options. It is located right on the main road, so you are close to cafes, restaurants, shops, and surf meeting points while still having a bit of separation once you are back at the hotel.

The property is quite compact and I actually liked that. The rooms are very pretty and there is more attention to design than in a standard hotel. There is also a swimming pool and the food is genuinely lovely, so I could easily see myself staying around for breakfast or dinner instead of always going out.

Best Area To Stay in Kuta

If I had to choose one area, I would stay anywhere around Jl Raya Kuta, especially if you do not drive.

This road gives you direct access to cafes, restaurants, shops, and most importantly the main surf companies. If you book surf lessons or surf guiding, this is usually where you will meet in the morning before heading out.

It also makes daily life much easier because you can walk to breakfast, dinner, and supermarkets without constantly organising transport.

Is Kuta Safe For Women?

Yes. I have been to Kuta many times and always felt as relaxed as I do in Bali.

Of course you still need common sense like anywhere else. If you surf, you will meet a mix of people. Most are great professionals but occasionally you might also meet surfers who are more interested in flirting than teaching.

In terms of clothing, Kuta is still part of a Muslim culture but people are generally open towards tourists. Shorts are completely normal and you have quite a lot of freedom in town. I would avoid walking around in bikinis outside the beach though!

Outside of Kuta, things change. In smaller villages and less touristy areas I personally dress more conservatively with longer skirts or trousers and covered shoulders. The same applies if riding a scooter through local areas. People are less used to tourists outside places like Kuta, Senggigi, and Tetebatu.

FAQs On Staying In Kuta

How far is Kuta Lombok from the airport?

Kuta Lombok is around 20 minutes from the airport by car depending on traffic.

Where should I stay so I do not hear the mosque at night?

Good luck my friend! There is no such place, you just have to deal with it. But honestly I got used to it pretty quickly and slept like a baby. If you visit during Ramadan it’s a lot more challenging because the mosque will be a lot more active at night.

This is something that doesn’t happen in Gili Air, Trawangan and Meno as they are highly touristy areas. Altough you have the regular calls to prayer, they don’t do the extra during the night that run constantly in Lombok. So I recommend going there during Ramadan if you struggle to sleep with noise.

Should I book my stay including breakfast?

Not necessarily.
If you surf, you may only want something small before heading out, like a banana or a quick supermarket stop.

In case you don’t surf, there are some really good breakfast places around town. One of my favourites is Bush Radio.

There are many stray dogs. Should I be worried?

Yes, this is something I would take seriously.
A lot of people I know have been bitten even when they were not interacting with the dogs.

There have also been concerns around rabies in the area. I would avoid engaging with stray dogs completely, no matter how friendly they seem.

As always, remember to have your travel insurance in check, you never know! I use Safety Wing and pay around $50 per month. Totally worth it!

Going To Gili Air Next?

If Kuta starts feeling a bit too full on and you want somewhere smaller afterwards, I really recommend heading to Gili Air.

I lived there for a while and it became one of my favourite places in Indonesia. You can swim straight from the beach, snorkel with turtles, watch sunrise with Mount Rinjani in the background, join the local run, work from a sea view coworking space, and somehow end up knowing people very quickly.

Getting there from Lombok is easy too. Head north to Bangsal Harbour and take the local boat or a short speedboat across. The crossing takes around 10 minutes.
