If you’re thinking of travelling to Bangkok alone, you’re making a great choice. It’s a city that’s easy to navigate solo, and there’s always something interesting happening, no matter how many times you visit.
I’ve been to Bangkok several times, and each trip had a different focus. Sometimes I went sightseeing, other times to work remotely, or to spend slower days getting to know the city beyond the typical tourist spots.
For each trip, I stayed in a different area and walked a lot through others. That helped me notice which neighbourhoods feel more comfortable for solo travellers and which ones actually improve the experience.
In this post, I’ll break down the best hotels in Bangkok for solo travellers, organized by area. You’ll learn what each neighbourhood offers, what there is to do nearby, and which hotels are worth considering so you can pick the right base for your trip.
Let’s get into it.

Best Areas to Stay in Bangkok for Solo Travellers
When selecting accommodation in Bangkok, female solo travellers often prioritise safety, convenience, and connectivity. This is what I kept in mind for this list after visiting Bangkok numerous times.
Especially the first time visiting the city, you want to move confidently and be independent. Below are the five best neighbourhoods to consider for your stay in Bangkok:
1. Sukhumvit
Sukhumvit is one of Bangkok’s most modern and cosmopolitan neighbourhoods. Known for its eccentric shopping malls, dining options, and nightlife, it gives solo travellers a good choice of activities and excellent public transportation links via the BTS Skytrain (more on how to get around later in the blog post).
Things to Do in Sukhumvit:
Visit Terminal 21, a cool shopping mall where each floor is themed after a different city, or explore the trendy restaurants and cafes along Thonglor. Relax in Benjasiri Park or treat yourself to a traditional Thai massage at one of Sukhumvit’s many spas (➡️ check availability at DIORA Luxe, one of the most prestigious SPAs in the area!)
Accommodation Options:
INNSiDE by Meliá Bangkok Sukhumvit
If Sukhumvit sounds like a great area for you, I would recommend booking The INNSiDE by Meliá. It’s a super comfortable option with stylish rooms. The swimming pool is the coolest feature of this place, overlooking the city. I would definitely recommend it for your stay in Bangkok on your own!
Starting Price: $100
👉 Check availability for The INNSiDE by Meliá
Sheraton Grande
The Sheraton Grande Hotel is a safe bet if you travel alone. It’s a few steps away from the MRT station so you can get anywhere you want and the rooms are super spacious. This place comes with a swimming pool, gym, SPA and other cool facilities for a comfortable and fun stay!

2. Riverside Area

The Riverside area is one of the best to consider for your stay in Bangkok. You can get a stunning view from your hotel room and restaurants. The river is a fascinating sight in Bangkok. You will see ancient temples and new buildings reflecting in the water. The location is very central, so you can reach the main attractions in no time and it’s a lot more peaceful compared to other districts in Bangkok.
Things to Do in Riverside:
Enjoy riverside dining at restaurants offering delicious Thai cuisine. Take a boat tour along the Chao Phraya River, especially when the sun goes down.
👉 Use Get Your Guide to secure your cruise! I’ve done this cruise 2 times already and I’m obsessed! I love the buffet, live music and admiring Bangkok lit up at night time!
From the riverside, you can also visit the historical Grand Palace and Wat Arun which are a must in Bangkok!

Silom is Bangkok’s financial hub, but it also comes with cute relaxing areas like Lumphini Park and hip cafes.

How to Get Around Bangkok

Navigating Bangkok is relatively easy thanks to its extensive transportation network. I found the trains to be really clean and spacious. They are also mostly on time and super informative when it comes to announcing stops and showing maps.
Here are the best ways to move around:
🚈 BTS Skytrain: Fast and efficient, the Skytrain connects major districts like Sukhumvit, Silom, and the Riverside area. I love being on this train, you really get to see stunning views over the city!
👉 Get your pass for the Skytrain on Klook to avoid queuing at the busy machines!
🚆 MRT Subway: Covers areas not served by the Skytrain, such as Chinatown and the older parts of Bangkok. It’s clean and tidy, highly recommended!
⛴️ Boats and Ferries: Perfect for exploring Riverside and Asiatique while avoiding road traffic.
📲 Grab App: A convenient ride-booking app for private cars and motorbikes.
🛺 Tuk-Tuks: A traditional way to get around, but be prepared to negotiate fares and bring cash!

Tips for Female Solo Travellers in Bangkok

Now that you know what are the best hotels in Bangkok for solo travellers, let’s talk street security. Bangkok is a generally safe destination, but solo female travellers should keep these tips in mind:
✅ Know where you’re going: I don’t like looking confused in Bangkok. Make sure you have data (I use Ubigi eSIM to get data in Bangkok and you can get 10% off with the code OBSERVER10 or download the Bangkok map on Google Maps, because you can also use it offline!
✅ Get Your Travel Insurance: Make sure you have your travel insurance sorted before flying to Bangkok – Safety Wing is a great one!
✅ Dress Modestly: When visiting temples, wear clothing that covers your shoulders and knees.
✅ Stay Alert: Keep an eye on your belongings, especially in crowded places like markets or public transport. I would also not recommend having too much cash because you can really pay for everything with your card. Maybe only take some small change for local stands or tuk-tuks!
✅ Use Reliable Transport: Stick to apps like Grab for safety and convenience, especially at night.
FAQs On Best Hotels In Bangkok For Solo Travellers
Where to go alone in Bangkok?
As a solo traveller, you can visit iconic temples like Wat Pho and Wat Arun, shop at the Chatuchak Market, and enjoy dinner cruises along the Chao Phraya River.
For more relaxed activities, stroll through Lumphini Park or explore Asiatique’s night market.
Which island is best for solo travel in Thailand?
For solo travellers, Koh Samui and Koh Tao are excellent choices. Koh Samui offers a mix of beaches and nightlife, while Koh Tao is known for its diving schools and laid-back atmosphere.
Both islands are easy to reach and cater to solo travellers with plenty of social activities.
Recently, I also visited Koh Phangan and loved it! The beaches were amazing and there is a strong expats community, so cool cafes to work from as well as wellness events and more!

How to get from Bangkok airports to the centre?
There are 2 airports in Bangkok (one is DMK and one is BKK) and they are well connected to the centre via public transport.
However, the best way to get to your accommodation if you have heavy luggage or travelling at night is to 👉 book your private driver on Klook.com. It’s an easy and safe platform to use when travelling alone.
Is Bangkok safe for solo female travellers?
Yes, Bangkok is generally safe for solo female travellers. Stick to well-lit areas at night, avoid excessive displays of valuables, and use trusted transport options like the BTS Skytrain, Grab, or official taxis.
So Where Should I Stay?
The Riverside area is my favourite because it’s by the Chao Phraya River and it looks fantastic, especially at night.
If you want to be in a busier area I would recommend Chinatown or even Khao San Road. The latter is very famous among backpackers and is active day and night. However, it’s highly Westernised so definitely less authentic than other areas.
If it’s your first time visiting Bangkok, I would say The Shangri-La would be perfect, or the Tamni as an affordable alternative.
Ciao for now,
