2 Weeks in Thailand: Itinerary for Bangkok, Ko Samui, Ko Phangan and Krabi
Planning a two-week trip to Thailand and not sure where to start? After exploring the country on multiple trips, I’ve created the itinerary I wish I had the first time. This one includes cultural spots, island time, unforgettable food, and the kind of moments that stay with you long after you leave.
Since The White Lotus filmed here, Thailand has become even more popular. But instead of following the crowds to Phuket, I chose places that felt more meaningful. I wouldn’t go back to Phuket, but every other stop in this itinerary is one I’d happily revisit.
You’ll travel through Bangkok, Ko Samui, Ko Phangan, and Krabi. I’m sharing the exact route I followed, where I stayed, the tours that were worth booking, and what I’d change if I went again.
One of the most beautiful moments was watching the sunset at Romanzo Tropicale on Hin Kong Beach in Koh Phangan. The outdoor seating, lanterns, and warm glow made it feel like something out of a movie. Peaceful, romantic, and absolutely unforgettable.
If you want a two-week itinerary that skips the tourist traps and gives you real experiences you’ll remember, this guide has you covered.
Itinerary Overview
This is the interactive map of this 2-week itinerary in Thailand, so you get an idea of where everything is!
The 15 days have been structured this way:
📍Day 1 to 3: Bangkok
📍Day 4 to 8: Koh Samui/Phangan
📍Day 9 to 14: Krabi
📍Day 15: Bangkok
Sounds good? Let’s get into it!
Day 1 to 3 Bangkok
Day 1 – Are you hungry?

9:00 to 12:00 Start your trip in Bangkok with a morning walk around Chinatown. This is my favourite neighbourhood in Bangkok; it’s super bright and busy. If you like tea, you should definitely get some here.
There are many tea shops and stands on the street. I would recommend getting tea from the shops because it’s packaged really well!
Chinatown is full of local markets, traditional medicine stores and even monks wandering about. I find that they really light up the streets with their traditional bright orange robe!
Walk along Yaowarat Road, sample pork dumplings or sweet roti, and stop by Wat Mangkon Kamalawat, one of the largest Chinese Buddhist temples in the city.
Chinatown is very well connected to everywhere else in Bangkok. If you head to the Ratchawong
Pier, you can literally get wherever you want with a ferry ride! This is exactly what you will do now to get to the Grand Palace!
🍲 Recommended tour here: Backstreets Food Tour with 15+ Tastings

12:00 to 15:00 In the afternoon, head to the Grand Palace, a must-see historic site. Inside the complex, you’ll find intricate buildings, colourful mosaics, and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha (Wat Phra Kaew).
Make sure to wear long trousers and cover your shoulders, as this is a sacred place. Allow some time here to explore the palace and take some pictures. If you can, bring a tripod to take good pictures of yourself.
The buildings here are so big that selfies won’t be good enough. So here you can bring your tripod and take pictures from far away by using the Bluetooth button connected to your phone!
15:00 to 16:00 From there, take a short ferry ride across the Chao Phraya River to visit Wat Arun, also known as the Temple of Dawn. Its riverside location and steep central spire make it one of Bangkok’s most striking temples.
16:00 to 23:00 Go to your hotel and get ready for this evening! I would recommend staying at the Tamni Hotel, which is one of the best places to stay in Bangkok! It’s also very close to Chinatown anyway, and it’s affordable!
Tonight we are going on a Chao Phraya River cruise. These range from budget-friendly options to full dinner cruises with Thai food and live music. It’s a relaxed way to see Bangkok’s temples and bridges illuminated at night.
If you’re not sure what to wear for the cruise, I would go “all white” because you will look good in the pictures at night!

Day 2 – Day Trip to the stunning Ayutthaya!

After visiting the Grand Palace on day 1, I would highly recommend going on a day trip to Ayutthaya, the ancient capital of the Kingdom of Siam. This is because you will still have a fresh memory from the Grand Palace, which will be referenced a lot in Ayutthaya!
This place is about 1.5 hours from Bangkok by train, minivan, or private car. Once there, you can rent a bicycle or hire a tuk-tuk to explore the historical park.
Top highlights include Wat Mahathat, famous for the Buddha head wrapped in tree roots, and Wat Chaiwatthanaram, a stunning riverside temple with Khmer-style architecture. The area is calm and open, with ruins scattered across grassy parks and quiet roads.
For this day trip, you can either organise everything on your own or ➡️ book this tour. I went for the tour so that I had transport and a guide for the entire day. I’m not sure if I should share this, but the guide takes really good pictures, so my tripod got a day off here!
Day 3 – Floating Markets Day!
On your third day in Bangkok, you’ve got two very different floating market experiences to choose from. If you’ve never heard of these, I’m talking about markets held on old long-tail boats in the river.
They are super colourful and beautiful to see. But that’s not even the best part. On both sides of the river, local shops and local food stands showing artisanal things or delicatessens you’ve never seen before!
9:00 to 12:00 OPTION 1: If you’re after something quiet, artsy, and not crowded with tourists, head to Khlong Bang Luang Market. This lesser-known spot sits along a peaceful canal, and it gives you an authentic idea of a floating market area.
I would say it’s a hipster-y place. There aren’t many boats per se, but you can see many art shops where you can use water paint and decorate mugs or other things available at the shop. You can also braid bracelets while having a nice drink.
9:00 to 12:00 OPTION 2: If you’re curious about the classic floating market scene, go for Damnoen Saduak. It’s the most famous and busiest floating market in Thailand. Here, long-tail boats full of fruit, souvenirs, and freshly cooked noodles float down narrow canals, while tourists snap photos from the bridges.
It’s colourful, loud, and definitely touristy — but it’s also a one-of-a-kind experience that’s worth seeing at least once. I have to say, if you want to go here, go with a guide because scams are happening daily!
➡️ Book your tour to Damnoen Saduak Floating Market here!
12:00 to 15:00 Head to ICONSIAM Mall. This is one of the funniest shopping centres in Bangkok. There are literally boats inside on actual water! Even if you are not a big fan of shopping, you should go there anyway!
15:00 to 21:00 Go back to your hotel to pack and fly to the next destination!
🛏️ Where to stay in Bangkok
As mentioned before, 👉 Tamni Hotel is highly recommended. It’s stylish, centrally located, and ideal for solo travellers who want somewhere modern without spending too much. If you are looking for some alternatives, we have:
👉 Mandarin Oriental Hotel: Some scenes from the White Lotus season 3 were actually filmed here. I have to say this place is really fascinating, and it’s right by the Chao Phraya River.
👉 Shangri-La Bangkok: This is another great option, especially if you’re travelling alone. They treated me like their daughter, making sure I had everything I needed at all times!
🚗 How to get to Bangkok
From Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK), take the Airport Rail Link to Phaya Thai or use a metered taxi from the official stand.
From Don Mueang Airport (DMK), take the A1 or A2 bus to Mo Chit BTS station, or grab a taxi via Grab for convenience.
Day 4 to 8 Koh Samui/Phangan
Day 4 – Koh Samui Babyyyy!!
![Sunset in Koh Samui. It shows a beautiful beach during sunset. There are small waves on a dark sand. The sky has soft clouds tinted pink and you can just about see a mountain at the horizon. [2 weeks Thailand itinerary blog post]](https://thegoodobserverblog.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/PXL_20250115_112155160-EDIT-530x530.jpg)
Arrive in Koh Samui and check into the Four Seasons Hotel. I’ll give you some alternatives later, but this is a fantastic place to stay and one of the settings where the White Lotus was filmed.
Here you will only spend one night. This luxury resort offers everything you need for a relaxing start to your Thailand trip, from spacious villas to world-class service and breathtaking views. I would say Koh Samui is lovely, but Ko Phangan offers a lot more, that’s why we are only spending 1 night here!
Relax on the beach and go watch the sunset in Lipa Noi Beach.
Day 5 – Move to Ko Phangan by ferry
9:00 to 11:00 Get the ferry from Koh Samui and arrive in Koh Phangan. This island is UNREAL! Some people say that it’s like Bali many years ago…
There is pure nature and stunning palm trees all over the place and the beaches are incredible! The ferry ride comes with a shuttle that takes you to your hotel directly. Don’t forget to grab your seasick pills if you are prone to getting motion sick.
💡Pro tip: There are many horror stories about people renting a scooter on the island, and yes, you will meet injured tourists. The truth? You can totally rent a scooter to get around here, but you really have to be careful. What I noticed was that there is nothing wrong with other people, but the problem is the road condition. Specifically, streets by the beach have sand on them, so they are super slippery. This crossing is an example; people literally fell every day during my stay. Make sure you go super slow and don’t forget to get travel insurance (I use Safety Wing!).
12:00 to 14:00 Once on the island, check in at the Kupu Kupu Phangan Beach Villas & Spa (more options later). This place is dreamy! Make sure to get a villa with an infinity pool and sea view!
The property is located on the west side of the island, which is perfect because you get to watch the sunset! There is also a Thai restaurant you can stop at for some food.
![Stunning beach with palm trees and a mountain full of trees in the horizon. The sea has a big wave washing on the sand. The water is a bright light blue. [2 weeks Thailand itinerary blog post]](https://thegoodobserverblog.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/PXL_20250118_053528428-EDIT-530x530.jpg)
14:00 to 18:00 Once settled, head to Haad Yao Beach, one of the quieter and more peaceful beaches in Koh Phangan. The soft sand and calm waters make it perfect for a relaxing swim or simply sunbathing with a bit of people watching!
If you get hungry, make sure to stop at What’s cup! This cafe is amazing with perfect views over the sea. Go home and refresh before sunset!
![View from Romanzo Tropicale restaurant in Koh Phangan. There is a table and a few chairs in the shade with a small bright lamp on the table. The backdrop is a calm sea with a few clouds and the remaining of a red sunset. [2 weeks Thailand itinerary blog post]](https://thegoodobserverblog.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/PXL_20250116_113813956-530x530.jpg)
18:00 to 22:00 This is the highlight of each day, sunsets are magical! You can watch it from any beach on the west side of the island, but I’ll tell you my secret spot.
There is a delicious Italian restaurant called Romanzo Tropicale right on the beach. Make sure you reserve your spot in advance with the best view, or just get there super early!
Anyway, as an Italian, I can tell you this place is really worth exploring! If you’re still in the mood for Thai food, just walk before and after the Italian restaurant because there are loads of options! There are also different cafes right on the beach!
Day 6 – Beach day and yoga
9:00 to 12:00 start your day at Zen Beach, This is one of the most popular ones for a good reason. Its a long beach with light sand and beautiful sea.
If you like swimming, you will love this beach as the currents are not strong and the sea is at the perfect depth. Here you will also see different people playing football and other sports, and everyone can easily join without really knowing anyone!
From here, you can just walk to the main road to find a few cafes or restaurants for lunch.

12:00 to 20:00 If you are into sound healing, kirtans or yoga, I would highly recommend the Orion Healing. Quite similarly to Bali, Koh Phangan is known for being a spiritual island.
This yoga centre is right by the sea and it’s stunning! There is also a lovely cafe you can visit even if you are not into yoga!
16:00 to 19:00 Next, we are doing a special stop at Seeds Of Dreams. This is a beautiful cafe specialised in cacao in any shape or form.
But there is a lot more to it. It’s a phone-free place where you can disconnect from your digital device and unleash your creativity. I’ve spent a few hours with a colouring book with a friend and had the most delicious hot chocolate.
It was ceremonial cacao, so they would add some spices to the drink, and it was delicious. So much so, I bought some cacao from them to make hot chocolate at home!
19:00 to 22:00 Now that you’re in zen mode, go watch the sunset or go to your room to get ready for dinner. Tonight we are going to Sirtaki Taverna, which is the best Greek restaurant on the island.
Make sure to book a few days in advance and dress up because this place is super cute. Otherwise, head to the Pantip Market. Here you can find loads of local stands with really good food as well as affordable Western food.
Day 7 – Secret Beach and ferry to Koh Samui

9:00 to 12:00 On your final day on Koh Phangan, you have the option to either explore one more beach or a temple. If you choose the beach, visit Secret Beach for a less touristy spot and beautiful, clear waters.
Alternatively, head to Wat Phu Khao Noi, the island’s oldest temple, located high on a hill with beautiful panoramic views of the island.
12:00 to 16:00 Go back to the hotel and get ready for the journey back to Koh Samui for the evening.
Day 8 – Relax and flight to Krabi
On your final day, take it easy in Koh Samui before heading to Krabi. Whether you spend the morning lounging by the beach or treating yourself to a final spa session, this is your time to unwind after a few active days on Koh Phangan. In the afternoon, catch your flight to Krabi!
💡Did you know you can easily walk to the airport? If your timeline is tight, stay at the Nora Beach Resort, which is within walking distance of your flight. This place is stunning and right on the beach! It took me 30 minutes walk to reach the airport with my suitcase, but if you take a taxi, it’s 7 minutes! Also, expect a beautiful and mostly outdoors airport. Make sure to go with an empty stomach because the cafes and restaurants by the airport are really good, with plenty of healthy options too!
🛏️ Where to stay
Koh Samui accommodations mentioned:
👉 Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui
Koh Phangan:
👉 Kupu Kupu Phangan Beach Villas & Spa
👉 Anantara Rasananda Koh Phangan Villas: This is a sweet alternative to the resort I recommended earlier. It’s on the east side of the island so you can get amazing sunrises and more quietness!
🚗 How to get there
To get to Koh Samui, you’ll fly into Samui International Airport (USM), which has direct flights from Bangkok and other major cities in Thailand. From the airport, taxis and hotel shuttles are readily available to take you to your accommodation.
For those travelling overland, some ferries connect Koh Samui to the mainland, with several departure points such as Donsak Pier in Surat Thani.
Once you’re in Koh Samui, getting to Koh Phangan is easy. Ferries run frequently from Bang Rak Pier in Koh Samui to Thong Sala Pier in Koh Phangan, with a travel time of around 30 to 45 minutes. There are also other piers, so you can pick the one closer to you! ➡️ Get your tickets here!
Once in Koh Phangan, you can reach your resort by getting a taxi, hiring a scooter or renting a car!
Day 9 to 14 Krabi
Day 9 – Beach day in Railay West
9:00 to 12:00 Arrive in Krabi and check in at the Railay Phutawan Resort in Railay. The views from this resort are stunning.
It will make you believe it’s some sort of honeymoon destination because it’s actually very romantic. But the nice part is that it’s affordable, so I went on my own and really enjoyed it!

12:00 to 16:00 Head straight to Railay West Beach, one of the most famous and stunning beaches in the region. Spend your day relaxing on the soft, powdery sand or take a swim in the crystal-clear water. You will see plenty of long-tail boats and limestone. This is the typical Thai beach that everyone talks about!
16:00 to 19:00 Grab some food by the beach. There are a few stands and restaurants. I actually had Thai food at the resort because it was delicious and not pricey at all.
For the sunset, stay where you are on West Railay Beach because it is unreal! Sometimes there will be some live music as well, so you can sit on the beach with a nice drink, watching the sunset and enjoying some cool music in the background.
💡 Be aware of monkeys! You guys, there are monkeys in Railay, so keep an eye on your belongings at all times!
Day 10 – climbing adventure in Railay
On Day 2, choose your adventure: either spend the day climbing at Railay or take it easy and chill. Railay is a renowned rock climbing destination, with stunning limestone cliffs that attract climbers from around the world.
You can book a half-day or full-day climbing trip to explore the various routes suitable for beginners and advanced climbers alike. If you prefer a more laid-back day, enjoy the beach vibes, relax by the water, or grab a drink at one of the many beachside bars.
🧗🏽 Book your half-day rock climbing experience here!
Day 11 – Island Hopping from Ao Nang!
On Day 3, head to Ao Nang, a lively area in Krabi known for its proximity to nearby islands. I would say the sea is not as mindblowing as Railay, but it’s still decent, and it’s the perfect base for island hopping and good food!

09:00 to 18:00 Use this day for a day trip snorkelling to the surrounding islands like Koh Phi Phi, Hong Islands, or Koh Poda. You’ll have the chance to explore vibrant coral reefs, swim in crystal-clear waters, and spot colourful marine life.
Most tours will take you on a boat trip that includes multiple stops and meals! If you don’t like crowded spaces, I would highly recommend visiting the Hong Islands. They are not as famous as the Koh Phi Phi islands, but they are really worth visiting!
Here are the island-hopping tours available from Krabi:

➡️ Hong Islands Day Trip by Speedboat with Lunch
➡️ Phi Phi & 4 Islands Sunset Boat Tour
➡️ 7 Islands Sunset Tour with Buffet Dinner & Snorkelling
💡Pro tip: You will notice I didn’t recommend day trips on a longtail boat. Although they look nice, doing a full day trip on these is torture! It gets really hot and there is no shade at all, they also go really slow compared to a speedboat! So always skip them unless it’s a really short journey!
18:00 to 22:00 Check in at your resort if you didn’t have the time earlier. I would recommend Centara Ao Nang Beach Resort, which is right by the beach and within walking distance to the centre!
For dinner, you can literally go anywhere on the main street (which is precisely this one), you can’t go wrong there. You can also check out the Night Market Place Krabi, where you can get some delicious local food at a reasonable price!
Day 12 – Experience your first Muay Thai Class
![An open-air Muay Thai training gym with colorful padded flooring and red steel framing, where several people are gathered either sitting or training, with views of lush hills and the ocean visible through the open side. [2 weeks Thailand itinerary blog post]](https://thegoodobserverblog.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/IMG20220119091218-530x530.jpg)
Today I’m going to give you 2 options: continue with another day snorkelling trip to different islands or book a Muay Thai class! Krabi is home to several Muay Thai camps where you can learn the basics of this ancient martial art, perfect if you want to challenge yourself or just try something new. My favourite is Khun Suek Muay Thai, I loved the instructors there and the view over the sea!
Day 13 – Relax and flight to Bangkok
On your last day in Krabi, relax and unwind before your flight back to Bangkok. You can spend your morning at a quieter beach like Ao Thalane or Klong Muang Beach, both nice and quiet. Alternatively, take a stroll through Krabi Town to enjoy some local food and culture.
In the afternoon, catch your flight back to Bangkok for one last adventure. Check this blog post if you are staying in Krabi for longer, it’s the perfect Krabi itinerary!
🛏️ Where to stay
Railay
👉 Rayavadee: Another fantastic option in Railay!
Ao Nang
As mentioned before, 👉 Centara Ao Nang Beach Resort is a great place to stay, the location is perfect, and it’s not too pricey!
👉 @Aonang Guesthouse: Budget alternative close to the centre with restaurants and supermarkets nearby.
🚗 How to get there
To reach Krabi, fly into Krabi International Airport (KBV), which is around 30 minutes from Krabi Town. From the airport, you can take a taxi to Ao Nang or Railay Beach, with transport options including private taxis, minivans, or shared transfers.
If you’re staying in Railay, remember that it’s only accessible by boat from Ao Nang, so you’ll need to arrange a boat transfer either directly from the airport or from Ao Nang. The Railay Phutawan Resort organised everything for me. I got picked up from the airport with a taxi, then got into a boat that was waiting for me, and finally I jumped on a tuk tuk to carry my luggage!
Last Day in Bangkok
![A smiling woman in a white shirt and mustard-yellow shorts stands holding a shopping bag labeled "BABY GOT BAG" in front of a modern bakery and pizzeria, with a wooden storefront and people seated at the counter inside. 09:00 to 11:00 Start your last day in Bangkok with a delicious breakfast at Sarnies. You can get the classic avocado on toast or other specialities. Pastries and pizza are also yummy. I’m obsessed! Keep in mind, there are different locations, so double-check on Google Maps the closest one to you!

11:00 to 14:00 visit to the Bangkokian Museum. It’s a small museum housed in a traditional Thai-style home that has been preserved to showcase life in Bangkok during the early 20th century. I think it’s really underrated. This house is beautiful, and it’s free to visit!
![A spacious, modern bookstore in Bangkok with a library-style backdrop filled with tall bookshelves, open seating areas, and a prominent "OPEN HOUSE" sign displayed above the space, creating a welcoming and airy vibe for readers and visitors. 14:00 to 18:00 After exploring the museum, head over to Open House at Central Embassy, a unique bookstore that is also an architectural and design haven. Located on the top floor of Central Embassy Mall, Open House is a bookstore and café combined. There is a coworking space available on the same floor, however, I’ve seen some people on their laptops by the cafe!
![A winding boardwalk path cuts through dense marsh vegetation in a modern city park, with a person walking alone and tall buildings in the distant skyline under a pastel-colored evening sky. 19:00 to 23:00 For the sunset tonight, we are going to a special place, which is the Benchakitti Park. This is one of the most impressive parks in Bangkok, and when the sun goes down, it becomes magical! For dinner, go to the ICONSIAM Mall again for more local food and watch the dancing fountains show, which runs every evening!
Best time of the year to visit Thailand
The best time to visit Thailand is generally between November and February, during the dry season. This period offers pleasant temperatures and less rainfall, which is perfect for outdoor activities.
However, March to May can get quite hot, particularly in central and northern Thailand. The rainy season goes from June to October, and while there are definitely fewer tourists, you will also have limited opportunities to go island hopping or snorkelling!
Most travellers follow the Bangkok and islands route below, but if you’d prefer a cultural trip, you can swap Krabi for Chiang Mai.
Alternative Route: Swap Krabi for Chiang Mai
If you’re looking for a different experience, swapping Krabi with Chiang Mai is a great option, especially if you’re interested in culture, nature, and mountains.
Chiang Mai, located in northern Thailand, offers a more laid-back vibe compared to Krabi. You can explore ancient temples like Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, hike the surrounding mountains, and experience local hill tribes.
➡️ Reserve your guide to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep here!
-> Check out the best places to stay in Chiang Mai for female solo travellers here
How to get around
Getting around Thailand is relatively easy, with several convenient options depending on where you are. In the cities, taxis and Grab (ride-hailing app) are common and affordable. For short distances, tuk-tuks are fun but slightly pricier.
To travel between cities, trains and buses are reliable (check 12Go for this), and domestic flights are a quick and efficient way to cover long distances (I use Skyscanner to get the best prices!). In places like Krabi and Koh Samui, taxis and motorbike rentals are popular ways to get around. You can even rent a car if you will be exploring other areas in Thailand!
FAQs On This 2 Weeks Itinerary in Thailand
Yes, this 14-day itinerary in Thailand is enough to explore several key destinations.
It gives you the chance to experience a mix of cities, beaches, and cultural spots, though you may have to keep your itinerary fairly focused.
For a more relaxed trip, you could swap some destinations for more time in fewer places.
The cost of a 2-week holiday in Thailand depends on your style of travel.
On average, a budget trip can cost around $1,000 – $1,500 USD, including accommodations, food, transport, and activities.
Mid-range budgets might spend $2,000 – $3,000 USD, while luxury travellers could easily go over $4,000 USD.
If you have only 4 days in Thailand, focus on one or two destinations.
You could explore Bangkok for the city experience, visiting landmarks like the Grand Palace and Wat Arun, then fly to a nearby beach destination like Krabi to relax.
Alternatively, a quick trip to Chiang Mai allows you to dive into Thai culture and visit the beautiful mountains and temples.
For two weeks in Southeast Asia, start in Bangkok for 3-4 days, then head to Chiang Mai for 2-3 days of culture and mountains.
Fly to Hanoi in Vietnam for 3 days before finishing your trip in Ubud, Bali.
For a slow travel experience, Chiang Mai is a perfect choice.
It offers a slower pace of life, plenty of cafes and co-working spaces, and a variety of cultural activities.
You can also explore the surrounding mountains, temples, or take part in cooking classes.
Last Tips for Your Trip to Thailand
As your time in Thailand comes to an end, here are a few key tips to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience throughout the country:
- Dress modestly when visiting temples and religious sites to show respect for local customs, whether you’re in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, or the islands.
- Don’t forget to get your data during these 15 days! Ubigi is one of the most reliable eSIMs for Thailand.
- Bargain in local markets, but always approach them with a friendly attitude and respect for the vendors.
- Stay alert to scams targeting tourists, especially around popular tourist spots across Thailand—caution is always good. When travelling alone in touristy spots, I always get a guide to avoid trouble! Tours are actually very affordable (I use Get Your Guide or Viator!)
Finally, don’t forget to hydrate frequently, as Thailand’s tropical heat and humidity can be intense, no matter where you are.
Ciao for now,
